The University of the Philippines Rural High School (UPRHS) and the Philippine Science High School (PSHS)-Main bagged the title as the over-all champions in the recently concluded Econvergence 2013.

After eight years of conducting the Econvergence, it was the first time that two schools were declared as champions. The Sacred Heart College of Lucena got the third place.

A total of 20 teams from 14 different schools in Luzon and Visayas competed in the following events: EKONOMIKA Quiz Contest, Intellectual Encounter Debate, Essay-Writing Competition, Poster-Making, Impromptu Speaking, Mini-Documentary Presentation Contest, Photo Essay Competition and Economics Forum.

Econvergence 2013 has the theme “Good Governance: Gearing the Nation Towards Economic Development.” According to UPLB Economics Society Education Committee Head Kairon Shayne Garcia, this year’s event aimed to make high school students be more aware about the effects of governance on economic development.

Econvergence is an annual inter-high school scholastic economics convention spearheaded by the UPLB Economics Society.  The activity aims to uphold appreciation of the relevance of economics in relation to the different social issues that the country faces.
