Wearing different shades of violet, women and men alike joined the Walk for a Cause this morning. The event was headed by the local government of Los Baños and the Philippine Commission on Women.
The theme for this year’s Walk for a Cause is “Lakad Mo, Tulong Mo”. All proceeds of the walk will go to the women cancer patients in Los Baños.
The walk started at the Olivarez plaza with 20 organizations, and 14 barangays joining the cause. The event was concluded at the New Municipal Hall with a short program introducing their event for the day “Serbisyo Para Kay Juana”.
Councilor Josephine Baby Sumangil-Evangelista gave her opening remarks followed by Mayor Caesar Perez. It was mentioned during the program that the local government has been extending their support to women with cancer that is reproductive in origin.
After the short program, activities were opened to women present in the event. The International Women’s Day Treat included free health checkups, pampering activities and legal service. The health check ups included blood pressure check, Hepa B screening, pregnancy and HIV tests and nutritional counselling. Free haircut, manicure, pedicure and massage services are also made available by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
Emily Indino, 46, from Barangay Anos, shared that she joined this year’s celebration of women’s day/month, in support of the cancer patients. While Glenda Garcia, 35, from Barangay Bambang, said that she sees the yearly event as a fun celebration where women get together.
