On February 7, a forum entitled “The Philippines in the Global Spectrum: Seeing Through the Tinted Effects of Globalization” was held at the UPLB CAS Annex Auditorium. This event was organized by the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Southern Tagalog, UPLB Sociology Society, and Bayan Muna Youth-UPLB.
The discussion focused on the political, economic, and cultural conditions of the Filipino society in the midst of globalization. Mr. Camio, head of the UPLB Sociology Society’s education committee, mentioned in his opening remarks that the forum aims to educate people about the current state and lingering effects of globalization in developing countries, especially in the Philippines.
Key speakers of the event were IBON Foundation Senior Staff Xandra Bisenio and BAYAN Secretary General Renato Reyes Jr. They focused on the economic and political aspects of globalization, respectively.
“Hinihinga natin bawa’t araw ang globalisasyon. Halos lahat ng ginagamit ninyo, natin, ay produkto ng globalisasyon,” Bisenio said in her lecture.
The forum was attended by UPLB students, instructors who served as reactors, guests from the different sectors of Southern Tagalog, and community members of Los Baños.
