The municipal government of Los Baños postponed the annual celebration of the Bañamos festival to December to focus in continuous relief operations for the flood victims.
For more than a month, barangays Tadlac, Malinta, Bayog, Mayundun, Baybayin and Bambang are still flooded, forcing residents to remain in evacuation centers.
The people’s needs are the government’s primary concern in the following months, especially the affected families in need of relief goods during their prolonged stay in evacuation areas.
The government expects the floods to have subsided by December.
No specific date has been set but the festival would probably be on the first or second week. There will be no changes for the festival’s line of activities. There would still be Los Baños Idol, Himig Sikan Battle of the Bands, Carnival Queens, Bailamos Ultimate Inter-school Dance Competition, Musikohan Brass Band Competition and the Miss Bañamos – Miss Tourism 2012.
After the Bañamos Festival programs for the Christmas celebration will push through as scheduled.
Instead of a festival, the municipal government has organized a “Walk for a Cause” on Sept. 17. The proceeds of this activity served as additional funds for the relief operations and other municipal services.
