In line with Los Baños 401st Founding Anniversary and 15th Bañamos Festival, the Los Baños Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) will be holding its 13th Environment Day Celebration, September 3.
Dr. Antonio J. Alcantara, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) designate and professorial lecturer in environmental science in School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (SESAM) shared that this year’s theme will be “Tungkulin ng Bawat Mamamayan, Pangalagaan ang Ating Kapaligiran at Likas-Yaman ng Bayan” to emphasize proper waste segregation and disposal, as well as environmental awareness and natural resources management.
Representatives from the Los Baños barangays will participate in various competitions prepared by MENRO. Three judges will visit each barangay to inspect and evaluate the surroundings especially in schools and government establishments.
Surprise inspections will be held in various daycare centers. MENRO officers will check the classrooms if the trash cans and garbage bins have labels, have proper waste segregation, and have areas of waste disposal. They will also see if the toilets and canteens are clean and sanitary for the children to use. The school with the cleanest environment will be recognized during the awarding.
The recognition of the participants of the outstanding daycare centers, street sweeper, and barangay will also be on September 3, along with the introduction of this year’s Mutya of Los Baños. The Los Baños Bañamos Festival will start on September 16.
