The local government of Los Baños is once again observing the Fire Prevention Month. Leading the activities is the Los Baños Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) in cooperation with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The celebration kicked off on March 2, 2019, Saturday with a motorcade from Lalakay to the municipal hall.
On March 9, 2019, Saturday, the local government will hold a refresher course with the barangay public safety officers (BPSOs) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of all 14 barangays of Los Baños. The course will tackle the topics public safety, fire prevention, firefighting, and basic first aid.
A Barangay Fire Olympics will also be held. It will be composed of three events: busted hose relay, bucket relay, and flammable liquid fire extinguishing.
In addition to the BPSOs and SK, the Barangay Fire Volunteer Brigade will serve as participants of the olympics.
Just this January 29, a fire incident happened at Brgy. Putho-Tuntungin, which lasted for around half an hour. While the fire was immediately extinguished by the residents around the area, there was still damage estimated to be between P20,000 and P50,000. An overheated charger was said to be the cause of the fire.
According to Barangay Batong Malake Kagawad Cristina B. Sumiran, the upcoming events in line with the Fire Prevention Month aim to increase the awareness and readiness of each barangay in response to possible disasters particularly fire.
