On October 22, 2016, Brgy. Maahas farmers attended the seminar on the proper use of foliar fertilizer and how the farmers can increase their income by using the liquid fertilizer that is directly applied to the leaves of the plants.

Lalog explained that there two types of foliar fertilizer. The first one is used for the fruiting stage of plants and the second type is used for the growth of the stem and leaves of the plant. He further discussed that aside from being organic, foliar fertilizer improves the quality of and yield during harvest.

Titled “Supplementing Knowledge on Foliar Fertilizer Regarding Its Use and How It can be an Income Generating Product”, Armando G. Lalog Jr. of Dynapharm International Philippines, Inc. discussed the benefits of using foliar fertilizer for Philippine farmers and its proper use. Foliar fertilizer is an alkaline-based organic technology made from seaweeds. It is used on ornamentals, vegetables, and fruits.

During the discussion, the Brgy. Maahas farmers raised their concerns about their lack of finances and financial support. Lalog explained that the company offers loans for farmers. He added that Dynapharm International Philippines, Inc. will conduct free soil testing around the community, and urged the farmers to conduct a yearly soil testing to monitor the soil’s condition.

Roderic Beltran Reyes, the president of Samahan ng mga Magsasaka sa Maahas (SAMA-SAMA); one of the audiences, said that the seminar taught him new ways to increase the quality of his crops. He explained that the technology will help them to have more income.
This activity was organized by the teachers from Maahas Elementary School in partnership with the barangay council of Maahas.
