The culminating activity is a part of the Kiwanis One Day where the Kiwanis members join together to do voluntary works around the globe. It is usually celebrated during the fourth Saturday of October. The KCLB feeding program was organized with the assistance of Wilfredo “Boy” Valencia of the Risen Savior Mission and Convoy of Hope, in cooperation with Brgy. Maahas Chairman Ferdinand “Jeck” Vargas.

Around 62 children and their parents from Sitio Ibaba of Brgy. Maahas gathered at the at the Maahas Covered Court on October 22 for the culminating activity of the three-month feeding program of the Kiwanis Club of Los Baños (KCLB) in partnership with the barangay council of Maahas.

Themed “Kalusugan ay kayamanan”, the closing program showcased the results of the feeding program, which was shared to the community by KCLB President Arturo Argañosa and the KCLB members. At the end of the three-month feeding program, KCLB was able to increase the weight of 47 out of the 62 kids who were screened to be part of the program.

KCLB also distributed free shoes to the children who participated in the feeding program and awarded two-year-old Maricris Redulla with a grocery pack for recording the highest weight gain among the participants. According to Florence Villa, the program coordinator, KCLB held the feeding program from July 26 to October 15. The organization held feeding sessions for the children three times a week with Manna Rice, a food formula that contains various nutrients needed by the children for their growth.

Villa added that this is the first time KCLB conducted a feeding program. Argañosa explained that the goal of the feeding program was “to improve the welfare of the children”. “‘Pag napakain namin sila ng maayos, in a little way natutulungan namin sila as part of their overall growth and development,” said Argañosa.

Villa further explained that one of Sitio Ibaba’s main problems was malnutrition observed among the children. This is the reason why KCLB launched its feeding program. Previously, the KCLB also conducted medical and dental missions and distributed hygiene kits in the barangay. Villa shared that they are planning to hold another feeding program next year.
